Sgt. John Vincent "Jack" Byrne DCM

L/Sgt. John Vincent “Jack” Byrne DCM, was posted from No. 11 (Scottish) Commando to serve in No.2 Troop of No.6 Commando for D-Day. Jack Byrne was shot in the left knee on 11th June in the same roadside action that resulted in the mortal wounding of TSM. ‘Badge’ Blunden of No.2 Troop.

Sgt. Jack Byrne returned to No.1 Section of No.1 Troop under Lt. James Halliday prior to the return of No.6 Commando to Holland in January 1945.

Jack Byrne sadly passed away on 10th January 2007. He was born on 1st April 1921, Married to Mary Hayes (predeceased) and with three surviving daughters.
