VI COMMANDO

Cpl. Harry Drew (aka Harry Nomburg)

Harry Drew was a German National whose real (birth) name is Harry Nomburg.  He served as a British Commando with No.3 Troop (often known as X-Troop) of No.10 (IA) Commando, and was attached to No.3 Troop of No.6 Commando from at least 5th June 1944 until, at least, 24th February 1945. 

Prior to being attached to No.6 Commando, Harry Drew was attached to No.12 Commando, under Capt. O.B. (“Mickey”) Rooney, and participated in the OPERATION: FORFAR raid on the French coast.

He was reported as wounded by a booby trap at the Bois de Bavent on 4th August 1944 , in the same incident that had wounded L/Sgt. Harry Hare.

After the war Harry Drew – now Harry Nomburg once more – became a postman in New York City , USA .
