Prt. William V. Gawon was reported as serving in No.6 Commando and being admitted to the US Hospital, Frenchay Park , Frenchway, South Gloucestershire , on 23^rd March 1943 , aged 25 years, with gun shot wounds having caused a compound fracture of the right humerus.
