Prt. Colin “Paddy “Harmer, formerly of the Royal Berkshire Regiment, served in No.4 Troop of No.6 Commando, as the Troop Medical Orderly. Prt. Colin Harmer was Killed In Action (KIA) by a sniper’s shot to the back whilst he was clearly attending to wounded men in the field, on 11th April 1945, aged 20 years. “Paddy” Hamer was described as a Gentle Giant of a man by Len Reed. He was the son of William Charles and Ruth Harmer, of Methley, The inscription on his headstone reads: ‘With others for others.’ |
