VI COMMANDO

Fusilier Charles Robert Hay, formerly of the Lancashire Fusiliers and No.12 Commando, served in No.6 Commando from, at least, 26^th July 1943.

Fusilier Charles Hay was appointed as Lance-Corporal on 12^th June 1944.

L/Cpl. Charles Hay died in hospital on 7th July 1944, aged 31 years from wounds received earlier in the campaign.

He was the son of Robert and Catherine Hay, of Dalton-in-Furness, Lancashire; and the husband of Catherine E. Hay, of Dalton-in-Furness. Charles was laid to rest in La Delivrande War Cemetery (Douvres, Calvados, France). Grave V.K.1.

The inscription on his headstone reads:

‘Grant him, O’Lord. Eternal rest. And let perpetual light, shine upon him. R.I.P.’

He was awarded:
