VI COMMANDO

Cpl. "Mad Mullah" Parry

Prt. “Mad Mullah” Parry served as the Troop Clerk in No.1 (later becoming No.101) Troop of No.6 Commando from 1940 (in Scarborough) until, at least, 17th February 1941.

It is noted that Cpl. “Mad Mullah” Parry had been sent home on Compassionate Leave in early 1941 and had, whilst away, been promoted to a Lance-Sergeant.  Not knowing this, he had returned to the Troop a day late and having not drawn any Sergeant chevrons he had taken his Corporal stripe off his left sleeve and had sewn it under the same on his right sleeve.  However, he was paraded the next day in front of the O.C., Capt. Woolitt, who promptly demoted him again to Corporal for being “Absent Without Leave”
